Forex trading from the UAE
The dirham is pegged to the dollar and, since 2022, the UAE working week runs Monday to Friday - almost exactly the market's own week. Few places line up this neatly.

Is forex trading legal in the UAE?
Yes - trading foreign exchange as an individual is legal in the UAE, and a large share of the region's retail trading is done from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. What the rules govern is the broker: firms that solicit clients inside the country are licensed by the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) onshore, by the DFSA inside the DIFC, or by the FSRA inside ADGM.
TNFX Ltd is licensed by the Financial Services Authority of Seychelles under licence SD133. We are not licensed by the SCA, the DFSA or the FSRA, and nothing on this page should be read as saying otherwise. You can verify SD133 on the Seychelles regulator's public register, and you remain responsible for the rules that apply to you where you live.
A week that matches the market
Since January 2022 the UAE works Monday to Friday. The global market opens at about 1 a.m. on Monday UAE time (2 a.m. in the northern winter) and closes at about the same hour early on Saturday. So unlike most of the region, your working week and the market's week are the same week.
Two things still catch people. The busiest hours - the London open and the New York overlap - fall in the UAE afternoon and evening, not the morning. And anything left open on Friday night carries the weekend gap: it reopens at Monday's price, and a stop loss cannot fill at a price the market skipped.
Is it halal, and what to check
The point of contention is the overnight financing charge, which is interest. An Islamic account removes it. On TNFX it is available on request on every account type and is applied per account - ask for it on the account you will actually trade.
The question worth asking any broker is what happens on day eight. Some grant Islamic status and then add an administration fee that grows with the holding period, which is a swap under another name. On our accounts the charge is removed and nothing time-based replaces it, for gold, currency pairs and oil alike.
Is there tax on forex profits in the UAE?
The UAE does not levy personal income tax, and the corporate tax introduced in 2023 is aimed at businesses rather than at an individual's personal investments. For most individual residents trading their own account, there is no UAE tax on the gains.
Two things can change that: trading through a company, and being tax-resident somewhere else as well. If either applies to you, check with a tax adviser before assuming the answer is zero.
Gold: from the souk price to the screen price
Dubai's gold souk prices physical gold per gram in dirhams. On MetaTrader, gold (XAUUSD) is quoted per troy ounce in dollars. Converting is simple because the dirham is pegged at 3.6725 to the dollar and an ounce is 31.1035 grams: price per gram in AED = XAUUSD × 3.6725 ÷ 31.1035, or roughly the dollar price multiplied by 0.118.
The difference that matters is not the unit. Trading gold on MetaTrader is a contract on the price, not ownership of metal, and it carries leverage - which is why a move that barely registers in the souk can be large on an account. Size it accordingly.
Funding, withdrawals, and is $100 enough
From the UAE you can fund by credit or debit card (instant, from $10), USDT (about five minutes), the Ovadot wallet, Payeer, Ptop, or international bank transfer (one to three business days, from $100). Withdrawals go back to the method you funded from, in your own name, from $50.
The Standard account opens from $100. That is enough to learn on - at 0.01 lots a one-dollar move in gold is about one dollar - but not enough to absorb an oversized position. The minimum is a floor, not a target.
How to tell whether a broker is genuine
Check the licence number on the regulator's own website, not on the broker's. Fund a small amount first and request a withdrawal before you deposit more - the withdrawal is the test that matters. Be wary of anyone who contacts you first, promises a return, or asks you to pay a fee to release your own money.
None of that is specific to us, and it is worth applying to every broker you consider, including this one.
Common questions
Is forex trading legal in the UAE?
Yes for individuals. Brokers that solicit clients inside the UAE are licensed by the SCA, the DFSA (DIFC) or the FSRA (ADGM). TNFX Ltd holds FSA Seychelles licence SD133 and is not licensed by any of those three.
Is forex trading halal?
The disputed element is the overnight interest charge. An Islamic account removes it; on TNFX it is available on request on every account type and applied per account, with no time-based fee replacing it.
Do I pay tax on forex profits in the UAE?
The UAE has no personal income tax, so most individual residents trading their own account pay no UAE tax on the gains. Trading through a company or being tax-resident elsewhere can change that - check with an adviser.
What time does the forex market open in the UAE?
About 1 a.m. on Monday UAE time (2 a.m. in the northern winter), and it closes around the same hour early on Saturday.
Is $100 enough to start?
It is the Standard minimum and enough to learn at 0.01 lots, where a one-dollar move in gold is about one dollar. It is not enough to absorb an oversized position.
How much is 1 gram of gold in AED?
Take the gold price in dollars per ounce, multiply by 3.6725 and divide by 31.1035 - roughly the dollar price times 0.118.
Which deposit methods work from the UAE?
Credit and debit cards, USDT, the Ovadot wallet, Payeer, Ptop and international bank transfer. Withdrawals return to the method you funded from, from $50.
Can I withdraw over the weekend?
Deposits stay open, but withdrawals and internal transfers pause from Friday 23:45 to Monday 01:15 platform server time while the market is closed.
