Pip value calculator
See exactly what one pip is worth for your position — in US dollars, with live reference prices. The pip value tells you how much money you make or lose for every pip the market moves. It depends on the instrument, your lot size and — for some pairs — the current exchange rate.
Account currency: USD · standard MetaTrader contract sizes. Estimates for guidance only — actual values depend on the instrument specification and your account type in MT4/MT5.
How it works
- Pairs quoted in USD (EURUSD, GBPUSD, gold, silver): pip value = pip size × contract size × lots.
- Pairs with USD as the base (USDJPY, USDCHF, USDCAD): pip value = pip size × contract size × lots ÷ current price.
- Standard contract sizes: 100,000 for FX pairs, 100 oz for gold, 5,000 oz for silver.
Frequently asked questions
What is a pip?
A pip is the smallest standard price step of a trading instrument — 0.0001 for most forex pairs, 0.01 for JPY pairs and for gold at TNFX. It is the unit traders use to measure price moves, spreads, and profit or loss.
How much is a pip worth in gold trading?
With the standard 100 oz contract, every 0.01 move in the gold price is worth $1 per lot. So a 1.00-lot gold position gains or loses $1 for each 0.01 the price moves.
Why does the pip value of USDJPY change?
Because USDJPY profit accrues in yen, its dollar pip value depends on the current rate: pip value = 1,000 ÷ USDJPY price per standard lot. The calculator does this conversion for you.
